Are Carbohydrates Good Or Bad For Weight Loss?

By Rob Harris

Carbohydrates are a form of energy for many vital organs such as the brain and kidneys. There are good carbohydrates and bad ones and, once you know which is which, you can use them to your advantage to lose weight and get the body that you want. In this article, you will find out a bit more about the types of carbohyrdates.

It is important to understand about the fiber in carbohydrates. Fiber is the part in plants that the human being can’t digest but it does do good things for the body and you can’t consider how good a carbohydrate is without judging how much fiber is in it.

Most good carbohydrates are well known, such as plant foods, whole grains, beans, fruit and vegetables and these should be made part of a healthy, balanced diet.

Bad carbohydrates are ones that the body will break down too quickly to get out a decent amount of nutrients, often these are foods that have been processed or are high in added sugar; for example, cakes and fizzy drinks.

If you decide that you are going to cut carbohydrates out of your diet, it needs to be a gradual process because if you suddenly cut carbohydrates out of your diet, you may fall ill with constipation, headaches and dizziness, among other things.

Consuming too many bad carbohydrates can result in a lot of health problems, such as increased rick of diabetes and heart disease, as well as the consumer putting on too much weight and becoming obese.

The body needs carbohydrates for a source of energy, but there isn’t a daily-recommended amount for them. They will either get consumed as carbohydrates for energy straight away, or they will be converted from protein and fat.

Carbohydrates are good for weight loss, because you need the energy to exercise and also if you want to cause your rate of metabolism to go high, so that you can be burning off the calories quickly. But only if you don’t consume too many bad ones because, while there is no daily guideline, you need to limit your intake of bad carbohydrates.

Some studies have shown that people who stay on certain low-carbohydrate plans for more than 2 years, lose and average of around 9 lbs in total, which is near to the amount of weight that is lost on higher carbohydrate diets, so it might not be the case that diets with low carbohydrate intakes lead to the loss of weight.
