There are many diets on the market, with many making claims of quick weight loss, with claims of no work involved and it all sounds great. But how do you know that these will actually do what they promise, what are trying to scam you out of your money? Here are some tips that will help you to determine what will help you and what won’t.

If the diet requires you to leave out a meal or replace a meal with a special drink or a food bar, then the chances are it’s a fad diet. If you do either of the above, you won’t get the vitamins or the nutrients that you need to sustain a healthy diet in the long term. Not only this, but you will miss out on the social aspects of eating out with your friends and family.

Diets that claim you don’t have to do any work or put in any effort are going to be fads. Real weight loss takes work, you need to burn off more calories than you consume if you want to lose weight sustainably and healthily. Therefore diets that claim to be able to leave out the fundamentals of weight loss are ones to steer clear of.

You should always consult a doctor or dietitian before embarking on a new diet as a fundamental thing to do, which is actually common sense anyway. So, when diet products don’t mention this, it should set alarm bells ringing, that they aren’t concerned about your well being by mentioning something like this.

Testimonials are always a good way to build trust in a potential customer and a great way to persuade someone to buy a product. However, when they are vague and they are not based on any scientific evidence, they could be fabricated and thus should be taken with a pinch of salt. Scientific evidence of a product being successful will always be better than a quote saying “This was great, I lost x lbs in y days” with nothing to back it up.

Fad diets often can rely on a specific kind of pill or medication and therefore are based on a short-term discovery or fashion that won’t work for a long term, healthy diet. These are also ways that the sellers of the diet will use to get some extra, quick money out of you before running off, leaving you with something that doesn’t work.
