How to Get Motivated to Meet Your Weight Loss Goals?

By Brianna Michelle

Weight loss is hardly ever easy for anyone. This maybe the reason why it’s always at the top of the new year’s resolutions every year. Most people who desire to lose weight often fail to finish what they have started. Here are some tips that successful ‘weight losers’ have proven to work to stay motivated in achieving your target weight.

Setting Yourself Up for Success

The last thing you want to do to yourself is to make a personal “Mission Impossible” for your weight loss goal. What I mean by that is that aiming to lose fifty pounds in the next couple of months is just plain unrealistic. And if it’s not attainable, it’s just like saying to your subconscious mind that you don’t want do it.

What you need to do is to make realistic goals. You may probably heard that goals should be S.M.A.R.T. – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely. This is the first step in making your goal a reality. Cutting down 500 calories each day makes it 3,500 calories each week, and 3,500 calories is equal to one pound. So if you want to lose one pounds on the next ten days, you should reduce 350 calories from your daily diet.

Go Public with Your Plans

Losing weight requires a support system. Hardly anyone succeeds in life just by doing it alone. Tell your social circle about your plan to lose weight. Surround yourself with your closest friends and family who will encourage and support you when time comes you fail and slide back to your old unhealthy habits.

Letting the people you live with know that you plan to lose weight simply puts you in a deeper commitment to follow through and remain disciplined. They can also remind you to make the right eating decisions and keep the food temptations away from you.

Keep a Food Journal and Write About Your Journey

Weight loss is such a serious business that you can’t just talk about it. You really have to write it down on paper or blog about it. Researchers found out that people who keep track of what they eat lose twice as much weight as those who don’t. If you’re serious in attaining your ideal weight, document what you eat and the fitness activities you do each day. This will let you recall how much calories you’ve consumed. Record how much exercise you do to check if you’re burning the correct amount of calories per day.

It’s not rocket science. Shredding unwanted pounds just means that you burn more calories than the amount you’re consuming. It will take a lot of writing, but doing this will definitely help you measure your success or lack thereof.
